Join us to learn the basics of reduction linocut!
A reduction linocut is a relief printing method where a single block is progressively carved and printed to create muti-coloured, layered images, ultimately destroying the block in the process. Artists print the lightest colour first, then carve away more lino for subsequent, darker colours, requiring the entire edition to be produced in one session.
At this workshop you will learn-
Process and brief history
How to prepare your image
Image transfer onto a plate (15 × 15cms Lino)
Set up registration system (Ternes -Burton registration system)
3 colour plus white reduction
Final printed work
Everyone leaves with a finished piece and a couple of beautiful prints to take home.
What’s included:
All materials (ink, linocut, tools, and high-quality printmaking paper)
Use of a large professional press
Expert guidance and plenty of encouragement
Group size:
Small and personal – max 5 participants (minimum 2 to run).
Who is it for?
Anyone aged 10+ who wants to experiment with art, try something new, or just enjoy a creative day out. Great for beginners and experienced artists alike—especially if you’ve always wanted to try working with a press!
Make a day of it!
After the workshop, explore the beauty of the countryside. Visit local award-winning wineries like Lethbridge Wines, Austin Wines, or Clyde Park, all known for delicious food and scenic views. Or stay the weekend in nearby Ballarat or Geelong.
